Practical, Real-World IT Project Management
(1-day,
8 PDU's)
This
course presents the six root causes of project failure, a
standard 5-Phase IT Project Lifecycle, Methodology and Project
Management processes, techniques, tips and tools. The course
focuses on the 7 activities to setup a project, 12 processes to
manage and control a project, and the 7 activities to close-out
a project. The one-day class covers most of the material
of the two-day class with fewer class exercises and case studies.
This class can be presented as a
generic (non-IT specific) class.
This course:
- Will show you exactly how to manage an IT project successfully,
phase-by-phase, step-by-step, from proposal through deployment,
operations and support
- Is Designed for project managers who are “in the trenches”,
managing tough, complex IT projects with a minimum of resources
- Is NOT an academic discussion of project management theory
- Applies to all types of IT Projects
- Application
development and integration
- Selection, implementation, upgrade, enhancement
of:
- Software/Web Applications & Tools
- Hardware & Infrastructure
- Communications & Network
Problems you will learn to solve:
- Identify and eliminate the top
6 root causes for project failure
- Engaging/keeping stakeholder
commitment: Management, Resources, Customers
- Roles and responsibilities are
not clear: Management, Customers
- Aligning stakeholders with
goals, objectives and scope
- Managing and correcting
unrealistic expectations: Budget, Schedule, Scope
- Coping with frequent management
priority changes
- "Project resources won't make,
or keep, their commitments"
- "I don't have time for project
management and planning"
- "My project seems to go on and
on - never ending"
- "How do I keep track of hundreds
of details and small tasks?"
This course presents effective project management methods, techniques,
tips and tools to utilize people, resources and time to ensure
IT project success. In today's tight economy, corporate expenditures are being
intensely scrutinized. Only those IT projects with the best combination
of: Return-on-Investment (ROI), Time-to-Payback, and Business
Risk are being selected for implementation by corporate management.
It is imperative that these critical projects are optimally managed
to maximize utilization of people and other resources. In the
current competitive economic environment, there is no room in
budgets, nor justification, for project delays or cost overruns. Without a practical, real-world approach to project management,
most projects are likely to incur significant budget and schedule
overruns, if they don't fail altogether.
