

Recovering a Troubled Project

Course Overview
Every Project Manager at some point in his or her career has or will be confronted with a project that is in trouble of was in trouble when they got it. The following are those indicators that will let you know that : “Houston, we have a problem”.
a) Behind schedule and no visible way to get back on.
b) Over budget and like the schedule, no end in sight.
c) Moral on the project has cratered.
d) The Sponsor(s) and stakeholders are restless and have lost confidence.
The first action is to understand how much more tolerance the sponsors and stakeholders will tolerate.
- The second action is to assess the survivability of the project.
- The third action is to create a renovated Statement of Work – priced.
- The fourth is to pitch it to the stakeholders.
- And, more importantly, the PM must survive.

- Determine if a project is in “trouble”.
- How to assess, if you have the choice, if you want to tackle the restoration.
- How to keep the “troubled project” on a respirator while an assessment is made as to what is fundamentally wrong with the project.
